adidas Football today revealed the home kit of the Russian national football team which will be worn during the 2018 FIFA World Cup RussiaTM. The new home kit is a modern interpretation of the jersey worn by the Soviet Union as they won Gold at the Olympic Games Seoul 1988. Popular Russian Hip-Hop and R’n’B artist Timati presented the new kit during his concert at Olimpiysky stadium.
The new kit celebrates the long-term partnership between adidas and the Russian national football team. This partnership started in 1976, when adidas became technical sponsor of the USSR football team. In the 1980s the jersey designs introduced new diverse prints, but the iconic red and white colourway remained unchanged.
The new adidas Football Russian home kit is inspired by these classic shirt designs and traditions, while containing the latest adidas technologies and innovations. The red jersey features solid white lines running from the back across the arms and onto the chest. A sign-off on the back of the neck features the Russian flag, the Russian eagle and the wording “Вместе К Победе”, translating to “Victory-Bound as One”.
Stanislav Cherchesov, head coach of the Russia national football team said, “A close connection to the past is an important part of football. I think that this new kit, inspired by Russia’s rich tradition, will inspire the players to show their best results on the pitch at the World Cup and make their own contribution to Russia’s footballing history.”
Juergen Rank, Senior Design Director said, “adidas has been the leader in football for many decades, and in that time we have developed many products that have become iconic in the football world. The balance is always drawing on the authenticity and popularity of these classic designs while also containing the latest product innovations and technologies. We create designs that are inspired by the past but that push forward the future of performance to suit players and fans alike, whether in the stadium or on the street. The new Russian home kit is certainly an example of this.”
Denis Glushakov, Russia national football team midfielder said: “The classic colourway reminds me of famous victories, while the design of jersey is really innovative and comfortable to wear on-pitch. I cannot wait to wear this jersey with pride next year during our home World Cup.”
The home jerseys are available to purchase at adidas retail outlet and www.adidas.com/football from November 13.
